Origin of cupro fibre

Cupro, also known as Bemberg™ or “vegetable silk”, is a cellulose fibre obtained from cotton linters, which are short, downy filaments found around the seed.

The linters are treated using the cuprammonium process in which cellulose is extracted and added to a viscose solution from which the cupro fibre is obtained.

Properties of cupro fibre

The cupro fibre has micro-pores that make it very absorbent.

It is a biodegradable, antistatic fibre with a delicate, shiny and smooth appearance that ensures garments made with this yarn are very comfortable.

Sustainability: 100% zero emissions target

Cupro fibre is obtained from cotton linters, the fluff coating the seeds, and can therefore be considered a product derived from waste.

The production process was once very environmentally unfriendly, but has now achieved high ecological standards: the energy used comes from renewable sources, and the processing waste is recovered and used as fuel for energy production.

Finally, efforts are being made to reduce emissions with the aim of creating “100% zero emission” plants.
