Origin of camel wool fibre

Camel wool is a fine fibre obtained from the coat of animals with two humps known as “bactrians”, widespread in Central Asia and known for their twin humps and long, shiny coat.

This kind of wool is not obtained by shearing, but by brushing. It is gathered during the moulting period, when the animal loses its coat.

Each camel can provide about 700 g of hair in one year.

Properties and applications of camel wool yarns

Camel wool fibre is fine and soft, is an excellent thermal insulator and is more hygroscopic than sheep wool.

When processed using artisan techniques, this fibre keeps its precious natural qualities unaltered, including its golden colour with nuances ranging from red to light brown.

Camel wool yarns are therefore very popular in the textile industry and are used to make high-quality, fine clothing.
