Origin of cashmere fibre

An incomparable luxury fibre, cachemire (in French) or cashmere is a fibre that comes from the hair of the Capra Hircus of Asian origin.

This animal develops a double coat: the outer protective coat is made of coarser hairs, known as guard hairs, from which a less valuable raw material is obtained. The inner coat, known as the undercoat, consists of a down that produces softer, thinner and more valuable fibres.
